Hong Kong 2014: Jenny Bakery珍妮曲奇

These days, you cannot leave Hong Kong without buying these babies. Gone were the days when tourists like us buy lao po bing, these cookies make a really good gift for your friends back home. Though opened in 2005, Jenny Bakery”s popularity immensely increased within Singaporeans over these past few years. After hearing that the queue can get quite ridiculous, we decided to head there an hour before the store opened. We visited the Tsim Sha Tsui outlet as it was nearer from where we stayed, and boy! We were so glad that the queue was non-existent… until we stepped out of the building. (more…)

Hong Kong 2014: Macau in a day!!!

Traveling without spending a single cent on transport within Macau is easily achievable. Other than the amount spent for ferry to and fro Hong Kong, the four of us managed to move around various attractions in Macau for free! You really have to thank the existence of casino buses – what a huge saviour!

Our only transport expense was the ferryto and fro Hong Kong. There are two more ferry ports to get to Macau – one in Hong Kong island, the other in Kowloon. Since our accommodation was nearer to the one in Kowloon, we started our journey from there. Don’t be surprised when random people approach you to purchase tickets… before you reach the counters. I am not sure about how those “illegal” tickets work, but it is definitely cheaper. However, I’d rather pay a few more dollars, and approach the counters. (more…)

And so, I narrowed down my options down to factors such as location, menu and view. So, where else to go but Tin Lung Heen at Ritz Carlton Hong Kong? We made reservations one-month prior and requested for window seats. We were crossing our fingers even till the day we arrived as window seats were non-guaranteed. Thank goodness, Lady Luck was on our side! We were delighted to find ourselves being escorted to window seats. Let the food spam begin!!! (more…)

Hong Kong 2014: Revisiting Tim Ho Wan (Prince Edward)

I was disappointed to hear that Tim Ho Wan’s original branch at Mongkok closed ): Though this famous 1-star Michelin restaurant has landed into our sunny island, I knew I had to go back to Hong Kong to try it out and see if it was the same as I first had it.

I was expecting a long wait, but to my surprise, I reached around 8-ish? And, I could be seated almost immediately. Sadly, all branches seem quite well-furnished and lack the “old school” feeling from the tiny, 30-seater Mongkok branch. Well, business is all about expansion, so we can’t complain! Another sad fact I noticed when was…   (more…)
